Matt Gloss, personal trainer at Movement First

Operations Manager · Personal Trainer

Matt Gloss

Education: M.Ed. in Exercise Physiology; B.A. in Physics
Certifications: NASM-CES, ACSM CPT, TRX Suspension & Functional Trainer, FMS Level 1

Matt has over 15 years of experience in the fitness industry. He started out pursuing a career in physical therapy but changed paths when he realized he wanted to help bridge the gap between therapy and traditional personal training. He became a trainer because every male in his family has died of a heart attack, and he wanted to be the first to change that through education and movement. Becoming a trainer wasn’t just a career path; it was a chance to change his family’s outlook on health and well-being. His outlook is that movement is medicine and anyone can do it. “Our bodies can get us through almost anything we put them through, yet it is our mind we need to convince” is one of his favorite quotes and reflects how he trains.

Thomas Coates, personal trainer at Movement First

Personal Trainer

Thomas Coates

Education: B.A. in Economics, University of Chicago
Certification: ISSA CPT

Thomas’ love of movement has been a guiding principle since his youth. Be it ball sports, skateboarding, martial arts, or bouldering, there are few avenues in which he hasn’t at least dabbled. Following the onset of quarantine in 2020, he was inspired to pivot from a career in finance to pursue his longtime passion for training. He sought to share his love of movement and help others find their own joy in pushing their limits. Thomas enjoys training clients of all experience levels, from novices to competitive athletes. He finds unique gratification in providing young trainees a safe and encouraging environment to foster a positive relationship with their bodies while becoming more athletic. Regardless of age, Thomas believes that building confidence in movement can allow one to live life more freely.
